Hello Again (Update)

Hello everyone,

It's been a month since I've last updated, and I wanted to talk about another thing that's occurred in my life. I am finally settled into my new home. The internet was down for the longest of time, so I was doing my best to save money to turn it back online. Anyways, I have some blog posts in the work of  more phrases for you guys. It's a slow process, but I plan to release them as soon as possible--once I'm finished of course!

Hello everyone,


Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been stressed since the move from my hometown to where I currently am now. (I'm keeping that information secret for personal reasons). Anyways, its been a while and I have a schedule planned for what I'm going to release next. Maybe more health or phrases to express emotions? I'm still unsure. Now to keep you up to date on whats going on in my life:

I moved to a new house that's states away from where I was originally, and I've been trying to settle. Sleep is kind of lacking considering I've been worried. Don't worry about what's going on, I'm totally fine. I think it's just the stress of moving and settling. I just hope that's what that is. I'll try to do my best to keep you personally updated on what's going on within my life, without going to much into detail of course. 

In the mean time, I'm going to do my best to post more phrases. Please be patient with me.

Love Phrases: In Japanese!

Sorry I kind of been pushing this one off... I have been dealing with some personal stuff, but I hope you all understand. I recently moved into a new apartment, it feeling a little safer than my previous home. Hopefully it will stay that way.. Anyways, onto the lesson.

Love phrases: 

Now these are the fun ones because there are many cute, lovey dovey phrases that we can learn! Some information I want to talk to you about though:

The Japanese are very shy people, they do not express their affection verbally. They express through action or gestures rather than vocally. Those who do express verbally might be just playing with you, so you'll have to be careful when you feel a girl/boy might be interested in you romantically.


あなたしか見えない(anata shika mienai) - I only have eyes for you
あなたは私の全てです(anata wa watashi no subete desu) -  you are my everything
あなたが死ねば、私も死にます(anata ga shineba, watashi mo shinimasu) - if you are dead, I shall die too.
世界中であなたを一番愛してる(sekaijuu de anata o ichiban aishteru) - I love you more than anyone in this whole world.
僕は本気で愛していたのに(boku wa honki de aishite ita noni) - I truly loved you

 心の底から愛してます(kokoro no soko kara aishitemasu) - I love you with all my heart

あなたはいつもわしの心にいます(anata wa isumo watashi no kokoro ni imasu) - you're always in my heart.

Weather Talk: In Japanese!

Now on my first Post, I didn't really touch up on weather talk or even seasons. So I'm taking my spare time to help you understand or even learn how to talk about weather in Japanese. From my first post, I talked about how weather talk is the more common conversation starter, right? In this post, I am going to teach you about seasons, weather conditions, and how to talk about the weather in Japanese!

Seasons: 
喜悦(keitsu) - season; seasons
式(shiki) - this means 'four seasons' which is very important to learn when talking about seasonal weather or just weather in general.
春(haru) - spring
夏(natsu) - summer
秋(aki) - autumn/fall
冬(fuyu) - winter

Weather Conditions: 
天気予報(tenkiyohou) - weather forecast
雨(ame) - rain
風邪(kaze) - wind
雷(kaminari) - thunder
霞(kasumi) - mist
霜(shimo) - frost
雪(yuki) - snow
太陽(taiyo) - sun
晴れ(hare) - sunny
曇り(kumori) - cloudy
大雨(ooame) - heavy rain
乾燥(kansou) - dry
湿気(shikke) - humid
災害(saigai) - disaster
台風(taifuu) - typhoon
土砂降り(doshaburi) - downpour
地震(jishin) - earthquake
強風(kyoufuu) - strong wind
津波(tsunami) - tsunami
洪水(kouzui) - flood
寒い(samui) - cold (samui is more appropriate considering it's used for weather related talk. Tsumetai is used for if a drink or food is cold)
凍える(kogoeru) - freezing (to be frozen)
冷える(hieru) -  become cold ( to be chilly)
こうる(kouru) - to freeze
暑い(atsui) - hot
暖かい(atatakai) - Warm
蒸し暑い(mushiatsui) - humid

Now we know terms about seasons and weather, now we can move onto conversational phrases!

どの喜悦が一番好きです(dono kietsu ga ichiban suki desu) - What season do you like best?
私は夏好きです (watashi wa natsu ga suki desu) - I like summer (but you can add the other seasons where 夏 goes).
私は夏が嫌いです。(watashi wa natsu ga warai desu) - I don't like summer
冬は好きですか? (fuyu wa suki desuka) - Do you like winter?
今日は雪が降りました(kyou wa yuki ga furimashita) - it snowed today
息が真っ白だよ(iki ga masshiro dayo) - I can see my breath!
冬は苦手です(fuyu wa nigate desu) - I am not a winter person
明日は晴れるでしょう(ashita wa harerudeshou) - I think it will be sunny tomorrow
天気が変わってきたね(tenki ga kawatte kita ne) - The weather is starting to change.
空がとても美しいです(sora ga totemo utsukushiidesu) - the sky is really beautiful
台風が来る予定です(taifuu ga kuru yotei desu) - the typhoon is coming
曇ってきたね(kumotte kita ne) - it's starting to become cloudy
雪が降る(yukigafuru) - snow is falling.
いい天気だね。(ii tenki da ne) - nice day
今日もまた、美しい夏の一日だ(kyou mo mata, utsukushii natsu no ichinichi da) - it's another beautiful summer's day.
天気は申し分ない(tenki wa moushibun nai) - the weather's perfect
だんだん明るく、暖かくなってきた(dandan akaruku, atatakaku natte kita) - the weather grew brighter and warmer.
敵は良くなった(tenki wa yoku natta) - the weather's cleared.
明日は晴れるでしょう(ashita wa hareru deshou) - It will be sunny tomorrow
雲ひとつない空だ(kumo hitotsu nai sora da) - there isn't a single cloud in the sky.
こんな完全ナビ鳥はまたとないだろう(konna kanzen na bitori wa matatonai darou) - could we have asked for more perfect weather?
やっと雨が上がったね(yatto ame ga agatta ne) - the rain has finally stopped
天気予報によると、明日雪が降るそうだ(tenki yohou ni yoru to, ashita yuki ga furusou da) - According to the weather forecast, it will snow tomorrow.
嵐が来るんだ(arashi ga kurun da) - there's a storm coming
雨はいっそう激しく降っている(ame wa issou hageshiku futte iru) - the rain is falling harder than ever.
風邪は再び強くなっていた(kaze wa futatabi tsuyoku natte ita) - the wind was blowing more strongly
暗く曇った夜だった(kuraku kumotta yoru datta) - it was a very dar, cloudy night.
窓の外には雪がちらつき始めた(modo no soto ni wa yuki ga chiratsuki hajimeta) - snow started to fall outside the windows
雨脚がますます強くなった(amaashi ga masumasu tsuyoku natta) - the rain began to fall more heavily
雪が大吹雪になった(yuki ga daifubuki ni natta) - the snow has turned into a blizzard
氷のような雨が叩きつけていた(koori no you na ame ga tatakitsukete ita) - the rain was driving down in icy sheets.
明日の天気は？(ashita no tenki wa) - what's the weather like tomorrow?
また天気予報は外れだ(mata tenki yohou wa hazure da) - the weather forecast was wrong again

Health concerns: in japanese!

Okay, so my last post was more successful than I thought it would be. I decided to make yet another post because my inbox is currently flooded with people who are wanting to know more tips and phrases.

So here it is :)

Health Concerns (what you should know and say) 

Let's get down to basic terms we should know-- what our body parts are called.  This first part is going to be vocabulary of body parts, meaning we get to learn what the Japanese call their body parts (sounds a little weird, I know). Here is the list of words and what body part the word goes to:


頭(atama) - head
目(me) - eye
耳(mimi) - ear
鼻(hana) - nose
口(kuchi) - mouth
喉(nodo) - throat
腕(ude) - arm
て(te) - hand
背中(senaka) - back
お腹(onaka) - stomach
足(ashi) - leg
体(karada) - body
顔(kao) - face
首(kubi) - neck
下(shita) - tongue
肩(kata) - shoulder
胸(mune) - chest
ウエスト(ue su to) - waist
膝(hiza) - knee
足首(ashikubi) - ankle
歯(ha) - tooth

Now onto explaining what is bothering you now that we've got a common knowledge of what the names of our body parts are in Japanese.

風邪を引いてしまいました(kaze o hiite shimaimashita) - I have caught a cold
少し疲れてました(sukoshi tsukaremashita) - I am a little tired
少しめまいがいます(sukoshi memai ga imasu) - I feel slightly dizzy
気持ちが悪くなった(kimochi ga warukunatta) - I feel worse
私は、心臓が非常に弱いんです。(watashi wa, shinzou ga hijou ni yowain desu) - I have a very weak heart.
私は、どうも気分がひどくゆくないものです(watashi wa, doumo kibun ga hidoku yokunai mono desu) - I don't feel very well.
昨日の午後、ものすごく腹痛がしたんです(kinou no gogo, mono sugoku fukutsuu ga shitan desu) - I had a frightful stomach ache yesterday afternoon.
胸が痛みます(mune ga itamimasu) - I have a pain in my chest
どうしたのか、頭がフラフラするんです(dou shita no ka, atama ga furafura surun desu) - I don't know what's wrong, I feel a little giddy.
近頃、体調がすぐれないのです(chikagoro, taichou ga sugurenai no desu) - I've been feeling out of sorts lately.
私は風邪気味です。(watashi wa kaze gimi desu) - I have a slight cold
私は、頭が痛いんです。少し眠りたいんです(watashi wa, atama ga itain desu. sukoshi nemuritain desu) - I have a headache. I want to go to bed.
  体全体がだるいだけ(karada zentai ga darui dake) - I feel a general uneasiness, that's all
歯が痛みました(ha ga itamimashita) - I had a toothache
私は、長年、心臓を患っているものです(watashi wa, naganen, shinzou o wazuratte iru mono desu) - For years I have suffered from cardiac weakness.
私は気が遠くなっていくのを感じま(watashi wa ki ga tooku natte iku no o kanjima) - I felt like I was going to faint.
目の中が痛かった(me no naka ga itakatta) - my eyeballs ached.
私、とてもたまらないほど頭が痛いの(watashi, totemo tamaranai hodo atama ga itai no) - I've got the most terrible headache.
ひどく疲れて、気分もすぐれないのです。(hidoku tsukarete, kibun mo sugurenai no desu) - I am very tired and ill
ただの風邪ですもの(tada no kaze desu mono) - It's just a cold
私はもう墓のすぐそばにいるような気がする。(watashi ha mou haka no sugu soba ni iru you na ki ga suru) - I feel that the grave is not far distant.
整理です(seiri desu) - I have my period
鼻水が出ます(hanamizu ga demasu) - I have a runny nose
下痢です(geri desu) - I have diarrhea
便秘です(benpi desu) - I am constipated
吐きました(haki mashita) - I vomitted
風邪ひいたよ(kazehiita yo) - I have caught a cold
気分が悪い(kibungawarui) - I feel under the weather
咳が出ます(seki ga demasu) - I have caught a cough
筋肉痛です(kin'nikutsuudesu) - I have sore muscles
今二日酔いです(ima futsukayoidesu) - I am hungover now
頭が痛いです(atama ga itai desu) - my head hurts
頭痛がします(zutsuu ga shimasu) - I have a headache
背中が痛い(senaka ga itai) - my back hurts
目が乾燥している(me ga kansou shite iru) - my eyes are dry

Basic Conversational Phrases: Japanese!

Thank you so much for viewing this blog! This is my very first post-- meaning I am going to be instructing you on basic tips, tricks, and phrases that will help you in your everyday life. Nonetheless, this lesson is going to be some basic conversation phrases in Japanese. These will be most helpful when wanting to start a conversation and touch base with natives when you travel.

Fact: Japanese consists of super-formal, formal, and casual phrases. Super-formal are used for job settings or work-related things, formal is used for strangers or those older than you for it is more polite, and casual is for close friends, family, and even lovers. ( Lovey Dovey phrases coming soon)! 

These phrases are compiled by their ranking (super formal, formal, casual). 

Tip: reading them aloud or writing them down on paper improves your ability to memorize certain words or phrases! 

Greetings: 
よー(yo) - yo, the casual way of greeting someone
もしもし(mo-shi-mosh) - hello (when talking on the phone).
お早うございます。(o-ha-yo-go-zai-mas) - the more formal version of   'good morning'. It's the more polite.
お早う。(o-ha-yo) - the casual version of  'good morning,' used for friends, family, and significant other
こんにちは(kon'nichiwa) - hello/good afternoon
こんばんは(kon'banwa) - good evening
初めまして(ha-jee-meh-mah-shi-teh) - Nice to meet you; pleased to meet you. You use this upon first meeting someone.
よろしくおねがいします(yo-row-she-koo-oh-neh-gai-she-mas) - nice to meet you but also translates to 'please treat me well'
お元気ですか? (oh-geh'n-ki-des ka) - the more formal version of 'how are you?'
元気?(genki) - the more casual 'how are you?' but can also mean 'fine?'
最近どう？(sai-ki'n dou) - how are things lately? (a very casual phrase, considered informal)
（名前)〜さんですか？( -name- san des ka?) - how about you, (name)?
貴方は? (anata wa?) - and you? (formal)
貴方？(anata) - you? (casual)
久しぶり(hi-sah-she-bu-ri) - long time, no see.
暑いですね？(at-su-ee-de-su-ne) - It's hot, isn't it?
寒いですね？(sa-mu-ee-de-su-ne) - It's cold, isn't it?
いい天気ですね？(ee-ten'ki-des-ne) - fine weather, isn't it?


Conversations about weather is common in Japan, just like how "how are you?" is commonly used in the United States. It's a simple and easy conversation starter! 

Replying is a little trickier because of the fact there's many ways of saying phrases.  Let's say you are greeted with someone asking how you are doing. Here's ways of responding to the typical "how are you?":

はい、元気です。(hai, gen'ki desu) - yes, I am fine.
えー, マーマーです(eh, maamaa desu) - Well, so-so.
はい、私も元気です(hai, wa-tah-shi-mo-gen'ki-desu) - yes, I am fine, too.
おかげさまで元気です(oh-kah-geh-sah-mah-deh-gen'ki-desu) - I am fine, thank you. (This is the more polite, grateful sounding response and can mean 'I'm fine, thanks to you')
とても元気です(to-teh-mo-gen'ki des) - very well
変わりないです(kawarinai desu) - as always
ちょっと疲れています(chotto tsukarete imasu) - a little tired.
具合が悪いです(guai ga warui desu) - I'm sick
何とか(nantoka) - barely coping
あんまり(anmari) - not so good

if someone tells you or you tell them you're not feeling well, you might hear the following phrases:

お大事に(odaiji ni) - I hope you feel better
大変ですね(taihen desu ne) - that's tough
お気の毒に(okinodoku ni) - I am sorry (you are not well).

if some tells you or you tell them you're doing great or okay, you might hear the following phrase:

それは良かったです。(sore wa yokatta desu) - nice to hear.

Let's try a sample conversation:

Person 1: 今日は、田中さ〜さん。
Person 2: あー、今日は, ナオミ〜さん。
Person 1: お元気ですか?
Person 2: はい、とても元気です！貴方は？
Person 1: 何とか。。
Person 2: あー, お気の毒に。。。お大事に！
Person 1: 田中〜さん, ありがとうございます

Translation:

Person 1: hello, Tanaka
Person 2:  Ah! hello, Naomi.
Person 1: are you well?
Person 2: Yes, very well. And you?
Person 1: barely coping..
Person 2: ah, I'm sorry. I hope you get better!
Person 1: Thank you, Tanaka.



Farewells are pretty simple but there's many ways you can say "goodbye" in Japanese, just like there's many ways you can say it in English!


Farewells: 

さようなら！(sayounara) - goodbye, it's the most common way of saying goodbye.
それじゃあまた！(sore jaa mata) - see you again
そろそろ失礼します(sorosoro shitsurei shimasu) - I'll be leaving now/I'm afraid I'll have to go now.
お先に(osakini) - Pardon me, but I must be leaving now.
